How our MCS certification works
Every heat pump that receives a Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant has to be installed to the MCS standard and registered with MCS. There is no way around that, and it is a good rule.
We are not the certificate holder ourselves. We install under the MCS umbrella scheme of Thermal Earth Limited, who hold the MCS certification, audit the standard of the work and register your installation with MCS. In practice, the design and the fitting are carried out by us, and the certificate that reaches you is issued through them.
This matters for one practical reason. Homeowners are advised to check an installer on the MCS Find an Installer tool before signing anything. If you search it for IT Plumbing and Heating, you will not find us listed. You will find Thermal Earth Limited. That is normal, it is how a great many smaller installers operate, and we would rather you heard it from us than wondered about it later.
Your MCS certificate, your Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant and your warranty are unaffected by this arrangement. We are happy to show you the paperwork, and to give you the umbrella provider's certificate number, before you commit to anything.
Quotations and fixed prices
Any figure given before a survey is an estimate. The fixed price is the one issued in writing after the survey, with the Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant already deducted. If something found during the survey changes that price, we tell you before any work starts.
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant
Grant eligibility is decided by the scheme, not by us. We apply on your behalf and deduct the grant from your price. If an application is refused for reasons outside our control, we will explain why and set out your options. The published rates are £9,000 for homes heated by oil or LPG and £7,500 for other eligible fossil fuel systems, and the higher rate is due to end on 31 March 2027.
Cancellation
